Reports were accepted as presented, including a recommendation from the Board of Education to hold an event for children during the Christmas season.  Voters resolved to place offerings designated for ALA toward the line item in our current budget and to remit all such monies at least quarterly, including any remaining unremitted funds.  In order to provide the ALA Federation with accurate planning information for their next budget, a motion passed to withdraw from the ALA Federation effective at the end of our present fiscal year.  Also approved was a recommendation from the Board of Elders to hold Congregational Meetings for all members prior to future Voters Meetings.

NOTES FROM OUR ARIZONA-CALIFORNIA DISTRICT CONVENTION
253 delegates from the congregations and schools of our AZ-CA District of the WELS were present at the 29th Biennial Convention held at Arizona Golf Resort and Conference Center in Mesa AZ on June 14th-16th.  The Convention began after an opening worship service at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Apache Junction with Rev. David Salinas of Victorville CA as the guest speaker.  Mr. Ham Walker and Pastor Kugler represented Prince of Peace, Yuma.

The delegates considered information in the WELS Report to the Twelve Districts and also heard additional reports from various boards and committees as well as presentations from WELS President, Rev. Mark Schroeder (WELS Long Range Plan for 2017) and from Rev. Dave LIggett, Director of WELS Christian Giving (Excel in the Grace of Giving).  Also addressing the delegates were Mr. Tom Schlittenhart for the WELS Synodical Council and Dr. Dan Johnson from Wisconsin Lutheran College.  Professor Daniel Deutschlander of Watertown WI delivered the keynote address, "The Theology of the Cross".  Delegates also were able  to attend an evening session on Tuesday led by Mission Board Chairman Rev. Dan Wagenknecht, "Seeing and Seizing Outreach Opportunities".

Resolutions passed by the delegates included a request to fill the position of coordinator of Early Childhood Education, encouraging the Synodical Council to make protection of historical documents in WELS archives a higher priority, opposing the restructuring of the Mission Counselor program and instead calling a fourth Mission Counselor to fill a vacancy, revising the Mountain View, Sierra, and Golden Gate Circuits in California, approval of congregational reporting forms to encourage accountability internally and to other Circuit congregations, and continuing  to review a constitutional matter with CrossWalk Lutheran Ministries in Phoenix.

Reelected to the District Praesidium were Rev. Jon Buchholz of Tempe AZ, President; Rev. Steven Degner of Santa Maria CA, 1st Vice-President; Rev. David Clark of Glendale AZ, 2nd Vice-President; and Rev. Dan Schroeder, Chula Vista CA, Secretary.  Other board, committee, and circuit elections were also held.  A list of delegates representing the congregations and schools of our district to the 2011 WELS Convention was presented by the District Nominating Committee and approved by the delegates present.

A closing service was held at the Convention Center with Rev. Michael Carr of Clovis CA as the guest speaker and included the installation of newly-elected officers.
